Taiwan needs at least 450 English teachers and staff —DOLE │ GMA News Online
More opportunities await Filipinos in Taiwan after its Ministry of Education (MOE) opened vacancies for foreign English teachers and teaching staff.
In a statement, the Ministry of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said the Taiwanese government has made available at least 450 teaching positions to foreigners in public primary and secondary schools this year.
Teachers participating in the program are expected to receive a monthly salary of NT$62,720 (P115,122.25) and are entitled to various benefits including travel allowance and health insurance. Rates, however, will depend on the education level of the teacher.
The Taiwanese government has said it wants to strengthen the education sector through the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) and achieve its goal of making English its secondary language by 2030.
Eligible candidates must have expertise in spoken English, a bachelor’s degree or higher, and a clean criminal record. Teaching licenses or credentials are ideal but not required.
Applications are open until March 31, 2022. Interested parties can apply online via: https://tfetp.epa.ntnu.edu.tw.
As of December 31, 2021, the DOLE said 193 Filipino teachers currently reside in Taiwan. —Sundy Mae Locus/DFL, GMA News
