MANILA – More Filipinos are expected to join their nearly 200 compatriots teaching in Taiwan as the Ministry of Education (MOE) launches the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) to expand recruitment of foreign English teachers and teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools.
Records from Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency showed there were 193 Filipino teachers in 2021, the Ministry of Labor and Employment said in a recent press release.
Philippine Overseas Labor Bureau – Taichung’s Labor Attaché Bienvenido Cerbo Jr. recently visited several public primary and secondary schools, as well as cram schools (test examination centers), in central Taiwan and urged principals to hire more Filipino teachers.
For 2022, the MOE is opening 450 teaching positions in public schools to foreign English teachers to establish an English-speaking environment for primary and secondary students, as well as to improve teachers’ English teaching skills. local.
The TFETP is in line with Taiwan’s goal of having English as a second language by 2030 and creating more opportunities for students.
The monthly salary for English teachers under the program starts at NT$62,720 (approximately PHP115,122.25), with travel allowance, health insurance and other benefits.
Salary will be based on the teacher’s highest level of education and years of full-time teaching experience.
To be eligible, applicants must be proficient English speakers with a bachelor’s degree or above and must have no criminal record. A license or state-issued educational credential is not required.
