ISRO offers a free 12-day online course on biodiversity conservation; Check details

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) offers a free online course for students. The 12-day course ‘Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning’ will be delivered by the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) based in Dehradun, ISRO’s center for remote sensing and geoinformatics. Students will receive certificates at the end of the course.

In its brochure, the IIRS has indicated that interested students can apply for the course by visiting the official website The deadline for submitting the application is December 5.

The free online course will be taught by IIRS faculty members from December 6-17. According to the IIRS, the course will be of most benefit to professionals in central and state government agencies, private organizations, NGOs, students, and researchers engaged in ecological studies. Participants who are able to maintain 70% attendance and complete the course will receive a certificate.

“Attendees who attend the course sessions via the IIRS Youtube channel should mark their attendance via the offline session which will be available after 24 hours,” the IIRS said.

Through the “Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning” course, participants will discover the applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in biodiversity conservation planning, 3D characterization of forest biodiversity, cloud computing for forest monitoring, among other similar things.

Step 1: Visit the official IIRS website —

Step 2: On the home page, click on “Edusat” under “IIRS Outreach program” which is in the “DISTANCE LEARNING” tab

Step 3: Click on “Online Registration Form” of the course “Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning”.

Step 4: Complete the form while entering the degree details

Step 5: Click “Preview” after completing the form and checking the details

Step 6: Click “Submit” and print it for future use.
