English teachers trained in effective teaching methodologies

Public school teachers in the district, who teach English in elementary, middle, high and senior schools, were exposed to ‘
The Hindu Young World’ and ‘
The Hindu Weekend’ tabloid during a training session held in Thiruthuvapuram and Thuckalay on Monday and Tuesday on effective teaching methodologies to improve their students’ reading skills.

Under this program, all union panchayat primary schools in the district will receive a copy of Young World while union panchayat middle schools will each receive copies of Young World and the Weekend tabloid.

All public high schools and colleges will receive two copies of the Weekend tabloid for 25 weeks so English teachers can teach their students the art of improving their reading skills.

During the training session held at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Thiruthuvapuram on Monday, 120 public school English teachers participated in the program. The District Education Officer, Kuzhithurai, K. Ramachandra Nair and the DEO, Thiruvattar V. Sunil, Principal of St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Thiruthuvapuram Thangaraj were present.

On Wednesday, 90 teachers took part in the program organized at the government upper secondary school in Thuckalay. The program was inaugurated by John Vijayan, headmaster of Thuckalay Government Higher Secondary School.

The resource person for these events was Sahaya Benzy, Assistant Professor of English, St. Alphonsa College of Arts and Science, Karungal.

The district administration, the District Rural Development Agency and the RMSA jointly feed into this programme.
